Deck Example 5
On this deck, the homeowner chose to stain the lumber before construction, to ensure the stain is evenly applied on all surfaces, and for homeowner pride in the part she played in the deck’s construction. The deck planks were laid at 45 degrees to the home to eliminate butt joints, and for the aesthetic appeal. The deck rail system was capped with 2 X 6s, and the 2 X 2 balusters were placed with 4″ spacing to comply with IRC code.
Adhering to the IRC code, whether the deck is permitted and inspected or not, is always a good idea as it eliminates future problems and expense to bring the deck to code if the home is going to be sold.
